The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex

  1. Smekday was the funniest book out of all the YRCA. It was hilarious and humorous and I enjoyed it thouroghly.
Smekday is a sci-fi sort of novel, about a girl, Gratuity, who is on a mission to save her mother (and planet) from the evil Gorgs. She teams up with J. Lo, no, not the singer, and a cat named Pig to save the planet. It turns out that the Gorg are actually allergic to cats, so it was Pig who saved the planet. Or so I say.
I think this book deserves a 4 out of 5. Some parts of the book were boring, other parts, AWESOME. Some places were just downright funny, and others, scary. Such as the purple mole.

  2. The true meaning of Smekday was quite a funny book. It was about Gratuity's mother who gets captured by evil Gorgs(aliens). J.Lo is a Boov, another alien who follows Gratuity to rescue her mom and the rest of the Earth, or as the aliens call it, Smekland. Gratuity brings her cat, pig along on the mission. The evil Gorgs wanted to take over Smekland and the rest of the humans on the planet. At the end, of course Gratuity was able to save her mother and Earth!
I thought the book was boring in some parts, though most of it made me interested and made me want to read more. Most of the parts were hilarious!!! Who ever thought the end of the world could be so funny? I would give this book a 3 and a half of 5.

  3. The True Meaning of Smekday is an enjoyable book. The comics and character's names are odd and funny. Some parts of the book are scary. I got bored with other parts. I'm still reading the book and will post more when I'm finished.

  4. So far I have read up to more than two thirds of the book it has been a very good book. Some parts have become boring in some parts because the story just goes on and on and on. Some parts ar exciting like when Gratuity the main character and the Boov named J.Lo. found the Koobish in the water tower. I was exciting because they found out that the space ship was real and that it was Haanie's capsule. And that they found the manual and parts to fix the car.

  5. I have finished The True Meaning of Smekday Day and it was a pretty good book. I thought some of it was funny like the part when the Gorgs puffed up and turned red from the cats. I would give the book 4.5 out of 5 for its humorous visuals. I would recommend this book to readers who like stories about adventures.

  6. The True Meaning of Smekday was a hilarious book. It was about Gratuity's mother have been captured by the Gorgs. He met a boov named J.Lo who fixed up Gratuity's car. They are trying to find Gratuity's mother so they could go home. His cat, Pig, saved the world!!

I would give this book a 4 out of 5. Minus 1 for having too much aliens. I would recommend it who likes aliens books.

  7. The True Meaning of Smekday is a really really good book although some chapters are pretty boring.(I really want to skip them but they are important to the story. I read them.). It's about a girl called Gratuity and her mother is captured by an alien called Gorgs. Gratuity teamed up with J. Lo, No,Not the Singer, and Pig(Not a pig but it's a cat)to save the world and Gratuity's mother. At last, they found out that Gorg is allergic to cats. Finally they sent out their ultimate weapon, Pig to save the world.

I will give this book 4.5 out of 5. Those 0.5 points are for the boring chapters. I sill recommend this book to all of my friends in lower grades and my classmates.

  8. Hey, Nicholas, I disagree with you saying that kids in lower grades should read this book, as they say the impolite-word-for-donkey quite a few times. I also disagree on the 'boring' parts, as i found the whole book very funny and action-packed. Then again, it's just my opinion.

  9. Finally!
I actually disagree from some or most of you. I found this story a bit boring. In the beginning there wasn't much happening but when coming around the middle it got really funny. Although it got pretty funny I started to lose interest in this book. Of course not until I found out that Pig, their cat, saved the world.
It took me quite a while to read this book because I simply didn't feel like reading more.
I notice there are some times that are meant to be funny and pushing you to read more but I really didn't feel it.
I know this is quite negative of me but it's just MY opinion. Then again ITS REALLY FUNNY TOO!
So don't take what I say too.... don't take what i say.

  10. Rachelwhatdoyouthinkyou'resayin!? I'm not letting you not have your own opinion, but you just spoiled it for everyone! Now people will know that Gratuity and J.Lo don't save the world, but instead Pig, the cat!
Anyways, the book's sci-fi. I think. It's good, but I usually don't read sci-fi. Maybe I really should begin reading this stuff...

  11. This book is mediocre at best, as it's attempts at humor are dull and boring, with an unrealistic storyline that seems to have been adapted from a more mature book to something for children. The fact that there are multiple alien species invading earth and both are much more highly advanced in weapons and technology is not realistic, humans have made huge advances in technology, and had we discovered an alien race, in all likelyhood, we would be far superior to them intellectually. The format of the book is original, it is written to be someone's essay for school and this person is commended for the apparent quality recognized by her teacher, which I believe is non-existant. Overall, I give this novel a 3.5 out of 5 for pity, because this is Adam Rex's first novel and had some relatively interesting themes.

  12. I didn't really enjoy Smekday. I was actually forcing myself to read it. I'm not saying that Smekday is a terrible book but I just didn't like it. No offence to anyone. The reason that I didn't like Smekday was that it was so unrealistic. I know it's a Sci-fi and all but still... I was confused about the two groups of aliens. 2 stars. That's all I'm going to give. It was really creative and imaginative though. Smekday was like a modern fantasy. I was very surprised that I didn't enjoy this book because I happen to believe in aliens. If this book is about aliens invading Earth, I might have fallen in love with it. Instead, I read until my eyes started to tear up just so I could finish it up. Just to get it over with. It was long and just listing events that happened. I wanted to see more of the main character and feel what the main character felt.

  13. Ahhh! Nice book, I had to say! It was a really interesting book. It really got my attention because of the fun idea of writing about aliens....and winning essays. The fun language, creativity, and unseriousness was what I loved the most. I hoped that I was Gratuity(Huh, fun name!)because she got to stay with an alien and could take anything from the stores! Most importantly, she had a really good idea of what aliens look like and what it feels like to stay with one.
Some of the parts of the book got me laughin' hard and rolling on the sofa. I kept laughing so my mom and little sister were all staring at me. Oh how I wished I could share the fun with them!
I also loved the fun photos and drawings in this book, as a reader, I really felt that I was there with either J.Lo or Gratuity.
Anyways, I give this book a 5 out of five and I hope everyone enjoys staying with an alien(in your imaginations)!

  15. I like The True Meaning Of Smekday because it was a funny book and really interesting. This book is funny because Gratuity, while going to California to find her mom who has been abducted and she meets this alien named J.Lo. This book is interesting because of the relationship that Gratuity and J.Lo build over the time while searching for her mom. Overall I will give this book 5/5.

  16. This book was very good and i really like this author because of his creative idea for this book. It was alittle strange in some parts and the story was a tiny bit long (for me) but, to tell the truth i was pretty impressed with him and his idea for this book.So far my favorite book.Im surprised that a girl like gratuity could actually be really close to an alien/boov like friends well ofcourse i couldnt i would be really scared! but come on who wouldnt have a (pretend) brother like J.Lo. I can tell you Gorgs are really mean... especially ..dumb.So, as i was saying really great idea, love the author and funny pictures.I recomend this book to people who like fiction books , strange, and very creative. I give it 4.5/5 like I said abit long and ofcourse the author is great! I would love to read more of his books!!!
