The Alchemyst (The Immortal Nicholas Flamel) by Michael Scott

  1. The Alchemyst (I keep on spelling the title wrong!) was so engrossing, I was able to finish it in 1 day. I love stories with lots of magic and Greek and Roman gods and goddesses.

The Alchemyst was a book that took place in just 3 DAYS! It seems so much longer than that, because there is so much action. The protagonists are Josh and Sophie, along with Nicholas Flamel. The antagonist is Dr. John Dee. The title, The Alchemyst, fits, because Nicholas Flamel is known as the Alchemyst. The sequel, The Magician, is Dr. John Dee, while the 3rd book, The Sorceress, is Perenelle Flamel.

This book and it's sequels are about Sophie and Josh, both mortal humans, who find out that, if their powers are awakened, they are magical. They help Nicholas in a quest to save the world by keeping the last 2 pages of the Book from Dr. John Dee.

I don't know what rating I'd give it. It was awesome, but if I give it a 5, there would leave no more room for my comment, "IT WAS SO CONFUSING!". For now, it has a 4.5 out of 5.

  2. When I first saw this book, I thought, " Oh god, it's going to be painful!" but I was wrong. It is really hard to talk about this book without spoiling it. There are two main characters, brother and sister. Their lives sudenly turn upside-down someone sinister comes to town. Nicholas Flamel is forced to reveal age-old secrets in order to save their lives. They are in constant danger suffering something worse than death. Who is good and who is bad? No one can be trusted. Josh and Sophie go from a perfectly normal life to a "what am have I gotten into!" life.

    Fantasy. Adventure. Mythology. History.
    The Alchemyst has it all.

I know that this book is fifction but it should a little more believable. The Alchemyst gets 4 stars!

  3. I forgot.
The cover was very "magical" and "potiony" and I liked it very much. I spent HOURS trying to memorize what the cover looked like, and I was NOT succesful. It was plain yet detailed.

  4. I am the kind of reader who would just pick up this book from a shelf out of all the other books. At first I thought:"Eww, a book about a boring alchemyst who live like thousands of centuries ago? No way I am going to like it. After the first sentence, I was hooked, once again. I couldn't believe how modern this book is! Wowz!
This whole book is so interesting. It starts out with an important event, the more I read, my desire of knowing what happenes next becomes stronger. Everything in this book is magical and makes you think why it happenes or did it every exist. The things that happened in this book are so ridiculous and happened so fast. From common sense we know all the magical magic is not real, but I have a trouble getting through that because the author makes it seem so real. If at school my classmate suddenly talks to me about wereboars or immortal Elders, I would think they are having the terrible fever and burned their brains. When it said that on the book, I didn't think it was a tiny bit strange.
I really liked the way the author had chose his way to start and end each chapter. The way he ended a chapter is getting to the climax of the chapter and then *poof*, the chapter had came to end. The way he started a new chapter is by wheather continuing from what had happened in the last chapter or some other events that are happening at the same time as the event from the last chapter. Either way, EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT THIS BOOK HOOKS ME IN BADLY. I am so into magic, just like the magic of Zen in "Zen and the Art of Faking It".
I totally understand why people had chosen it for the Young Reader's Choise Award. Come on! This book is so good and you've just got to admit it! I bet everyone would like it and would like to read the second book of this series, which is "The Magician". I give it a very high mark instead of just 5 because it really surprised me with all the unexpected surprises in the book.

  5. The Alchymest! (Is that how you spell it?) Just from the look of it it was the first book I wanted to read. As soon as i could get into the the library it was the first YRCA book i looked for. Unfortunately I had to read two other books before i could get my hands on this one.
This was book was just plain greatness...! i'd probably rate this a 4.
In the matter of 24 hours their lives were changed from an ordinary, boring life to a magical, mythical world. All they thought were myths are actually true. They live, vampires(not the ones you read about), clay men, awakening the dead, wereboars(instead of werewolves) and even more strange, chaotic things.
The safety of the world has landed on their shoulders and to stop Dr.John Dee, Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel must awaken the twins' powers.
    it was so exciting!
I'm not that fast of a reader but i managed to finish this book in 3 days! It's that good. I recommend this to those who like mythical and magical books. Definitely!

  7. The Alchemist is a very interesting book. There is a lot that goes on in the story. It switches from one scene to another scene which is pretty hard for the author to keep the reader interested and not get confused. It is fast paced .

Over all I would give this book a 5/5 because it is a realy good book and because of the magic.

  9. The Alchemyst was an interesting book! I was reading this book during my winter vacation!

The main characters were Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel and the twins. Nicholas found the twins during their stay with their family.unfortunately Nicholas told his real name to the twins. So the twins followed him to an adventure around the world.

Read The Book to find out more about The Alchemyst.

I will rate it a 5 out of 5 because I like magical things. I will recommend people who like magic and fiction.

  10. I was nearly unable to finish this novel because of the theme beign about magic. I am a logical person. People lobbing fireballs and psychopathic birds attempting to destroy a car while being remotely commanded by some steriotypical villain is not something I appreciate in a novel. On top of this there is not only a terrible idea about "auras" and the idea that everyone is somewhat magical is pretentious and unappealing (period) as a result of this i rate this book a # otu of ten because some of the main characters died so it was not quite as pretentious as it was at the beggining (period)

  11. This book was really exciting. I was really into the action and the magic in this book. Something I didn't really like was how the characters always encountered rats and birds controlled by this villain. But, that was where the action was so I guess it's okay? The ending really got me into it. When the author described the "dead" coming closer to the characters, it reminded me when I was playing a video game with "dead". (haha)
The only thing I didn't like about this book was the bothersome birds and rats. Overall I rate this book a 4.5/5
