This book is serious so much like "Schooled", just like what Lilian had said. Both characters Cap and San are trying to fit in another school. They each had different ways to fit in though. The relationship in this book between Woody(Emily) and San is interesting. Actually, everything in this book is interesting! San lied his way to make everyone in the school think that he is a Zen master and trying to get Woody to like him, of course. Near the end Woody found out that San was lying and got very upset but at the end of the book they were friends again. I loved the humor in this book. Sometimes I'm in bed at night trying to sleep and one of the funny senerios would get in my mind and I'd start laughing out loud.(I know, wierd.) This is a very good book everyone should read. Just from the cover and the title you know this book is going to be some what fascinating. I give it a 4.7 our of five and I totally recommende it. 30 *Louise*
Forgot to add that this book contains ~MAGIC~! The Zen stuff in this book makes me want to run to the library at that very instant and borrow tons of book about Zen. It's so interesting!! The author must knows a lot about Zen. I can't just not admit that I wanted to try the Zen stuff I learned in this book on my friends and try to convince them that I am a Zen master. The details on how San wears and acts is not some super important thing that makes this book a Young Reader's Choice Award book immediately, but it secretly makes this book so much more fun to read without you noticing. I also like how each chapter has a fasinating and not a really proper title that leaves you wondering what would happen. Isn't that just a smart trick to keep the on hook? C'est le tres bien livre! 30 for $Louise$
I really liked this book because like school it portrays a boy at a new school who doesn't know how to fit in just like the book schooled and they are both really funny. I thought zen and the art of faking it was funnier than schooled because it was about someone who knew what middle school was like and no one knows what he is really like. I also liked the quotes in the book. I remember when I saw the cover I thought it looked weird especially with all the basket balls. I did like how he tricks everyone into thinking he gives great advice even though no one knows what he's saying. I don't like how the book just ends and nothing really special happens. I think the moral of this story is to be yourself. I give it a 4 out of 5 not 5 for the ending
At first, like Jelli, i thought this book would be boring. Apparently it totally wasn't! I don't know but I actually loved this book. Well others have aready said what this book is basically about so... The book flew by as i read for maybe an hour at a time. The more i read the more i wanted to keep reading. It was a really funny book to read but i haven't read schooled yet so i couldn't compare (I know, amazing, someone hasn't read schooled yet) And the doode on the cover, is he San? I didnt picture him like that. At the end i thought there was going to be more of it but when there wasn't i was pretty disappointed. Anyways this book was amazing and always be honest or it'll bite back at you.( Unless it was some kind of secret life or death situation then i reccommend it. :)
Oh and what SSL said. I never noticed how into the book I was. Like after i read i thought it was boring, unfascinating until i realized what time it was. And he can be very convincing, even though i couldn't believe everyone bought his lie. I don't think i would have but woah. The title, after you finish reading each chapter, explains non-imporant details making you want to find out 'what's with this title?' It doesn't give you the main idea, it lets you find out yourself. I think this author is a brilliant person but most books do this, but the story, once again, is amazing. (Forgot to add a couple of things.......)
After reading Zen and the Art of Faking it, I found my memory to be not as accurate as i had believed it to be.
Zen and the Art of Faking it is about a boy named San Lee who pretends to be a zen master. Pretends. Therefore, someone would find out SOMETIME that he was pretending, right? Right. In fact, all his friends find out and start ignoring him. I guess the title, Zen and the Art of Faking it, comes from the fact that he is pretending to be a Zen Master.
There are many secret family relations in this story, for example, the mean librarian whose name I can not remember and one of San's teachers are siblings. When someone was slipping notes into San's locker, i flipped to the back to find out who it was, and it said, 'go see my sister' at the end of one of the notes. So I assumed it was someone else. So, I was surprised in the end.
This book reminds me of Twisted, a book I found overly mature and sort of like Zen and the Art of Faking it. Tyler, the protagonist, puts on a fake character to impress girls, and by girls, I mean Tyler's dad's boss's daughter, also known as Tyler's worst enemy's sister AS WELL AS the Queen Bee of the school. AND then Tyler gets NEARLY thrown into jail for trying to protect this Queen Bee from guys. So, both protagonists were lying.
In the end I figured that Zen and the Art of Faking it still gets a 4 out of 5 because it is sort of advertising lying and faking, because those slower readers might read it and say to themselves 'COOL! I'm going to pretend to be a Zen Master and be popular!' until the end, when the truth comes out and the consequences start taking place, but it might be a little too late for the reader to know. So, the book deserves a 4 out of 5 ~Lilian 4 also known as Jelli
After reading Zen and the Art of Faking it, I found out that it was similar to Schooled. Capricon Anderson and San Lee are so alike, just trying to fit in with other people. San was pretending to be a Zen Master. There also was an another character named, Emily a.k.a( Woody). Woody was trying to like him but, at the end she noticed that San was lying. I thought to myself that this will be very interesting, and it was!
I will rate this book a 4 out of 5 because -1 for San lying to Woody. Why wouldn't he told her in the first place so she won't be so hurtful? Still, I will recommend it to everyone who was new to a school once.
This book was a very excellent book!! I really connected it to schooled. San Lee very much reminded me of Capricorn Anderson. These two character's are new to a high school and they are just trying to fit in. The only difference between these two is that Capricorn tries to be himself no matter what, but San on the other hand tries to lie about who he is just for people and a special someone cough cough (Woody) to notice him. This book was a very fun and interesting read. It also taught you about other beliefs and religions, like the buddhism religion. I learned quite alot from this book. I liked the whole Woody and San situation, it was very exciting how San is trying to be someone he is not just for Woody and he does a very good job at it I have to say. But at the end of all San's hard work Woody find's out that he is just a fake.
I would have to give this a 5/5! these are the type or books i love to read! this book made me laugh so hard i enjoyed it!!!!!!! I would totally recommend this to all my friends!!!
I loved this book!I really liked the connection between Woody and San. The lying wasn't really necessary but for a girl..I understand. San is a bit like me I mean we both traveled to different schools, fitting in, and sometimes we arent true to ourselves but with a simple change, everything will be back to the things we've wanted, but we can't always get what we want.Continuing with the story, This book was very addicting! It made me want to read more ...and MORE! Everything! in the book was REALLY! good! This book had a messsage that don't try to be someone else be yourself :D I think San deserved the consequenses towards the ending. I rate this book 5/5! I recommend this book to people who have experienced a bit of Sans life or has traveled to different schools (like me) ~DINA 18~
I really liked this book! First, it was a fast read. Second, the author used a really good technique to show how the main character was feeling. I really enjoyed reading the funny comments San gave out. Also, I thought that San had to lie to Woody so that she would like him, was kind of unnecessary. I thought if he let her know the real side of him, or the good things about himself, maybe Woody would fall in love with him. Instead of lying, and being so "fake". But, I guess that it was showing a kind of "love"? (I don't know...) But, one thing I didn’t really like about this book was that the GOOD ending finished really fast, it took a few really short chapters to end it. Maybe I would have wanted a few more chapters talking about it. I was kind of disappointed how the author made things end so quickly. But overall, this book was great! I give this book a 5/5. Even if the ending was just a bit short, but it was positive enough.
