Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landry

  1. Skulduggery Pleasant was a very pleasant book. Not just pleasant, it was full of action and scary stuff.

Skulduggery Pleasant/The Sceptor of the Ancients is about a 12 year old girl, Stephanie, who is on a quest along with a SKELETON, Skulduggery Pleasant. They have to find the Sceptor BEFORE Serpine does. They do, eventually, but someone, the traitor who shall not be named for fear of spoiling the book, gives it to Serpine. There is a lot of fighting and magic, and I would guess it was a lot like the Alchemyst in several places.

I think having a skeleton as one of the main characters was very interesting. I'd give it 4.5 out of 5: minus .5 for the scaryness of the book. I would reccomend this book to everyone!

P.S. just for a side note, DON'T READ THE BOOK AT NIGHT!

  2. Yes I agree. Skulduggery Pleasant: Ancient of the Scepters is definitely a pleasant book. One of the best books I've ever read actually. I'm really looking forward to see if I can find the sequel to this book.
It wasn't just pleasant, it was... Brilliant, marvelous, beautiful(spelled it right, ha ha) and somewhat violent.
My favourite character is Skulduggery Pleasant of course.
I find it funny how he and Stephanie could argue so calmly, almost like casual talk. Every chapter I read I always hate how i MUST go to bed. I couldn't wait to read the next chapter.
This book confuses me somehow because it turns out that this whole book is basically a couple of weeks. Very least one week. All this, the magic, the Ancients, the Scepter, the Book of Names, all this in one week.
Anyways... This book is absolutely AMAZING!
Of course I recommend this book to everyone except for those who might get scared...(*sly look*)

  3. Skuldugger Pleasant was an amazing book! It was full of action, mystery and adventure. I was up late at night reading the ends of chapters, and even starting new ones.
My favourite part, of course, was all the action! And just as well, my favourite character is Skulduggery, but I also liked Tanith...they were both pretty cool. My least favourite part were the death. It made me feel a bit sad, but the action did cheer me up.
But to sum it all up, this book was fantastic. I give it a 4.5 out of 5 also for the scariness and deaths. I recommend this book to anybody who likes action, which I'm pretty sure which is everybody.

  4. Skulduggery Pleasant: Ancient of the Scepters was an okay book. The book was very violent. The main characters are Stephanie and Skulduggery Pleasant. I find it very funny when Stephanie's uncle(Fergus) was shocked that she got his uncle's house.
I recommend this book that who likes violence, dying, and killing. I would this book a 4 out of 5. Minus 1 for having so much violence in this book.

  5. It is kind of violent but not the bloody type. He's bones and those other monsters are like dust. Yes, it was hilarious in the beginning when they received the house. Now that I think about it i really like Tanith too. Especially when she and Stephanie had no idea what to look for... "I dunno. I'm looking for a footprint or something." They burst out laughing. This is probably my favourite out of all the ones I've read.

  6. Just from the first look of the book cover, you could tell this book was somehow mysterious. All the vibrant colours, green and purple and so many more. I loved how the cover just hooked me in, I was really excited that about the colours because I love colourful things, whether I admit it or not. The first chapter start us out as the main cause of the entire book. Somehow the after a few chapters I was reluctant to read the book. Whenever I saw the book I grimaced because I wanted to finish it but I was finding it getting boring and the hook getting loose. Anyways, I had to finish it no matter how so I forced myself to read it. After another few chapters, all the actions helped me finish this book. The action was probably by far the best action I had ever read. Everything was so exciting and the I was hooked in once again. I got terrible dark circles today because stayed up yesterday night so I could read a little more of the book.(And as you guessed, my parents asked me what I was doing last night and what time I got to bed. Today I read the remaining of the book. The action was so real and I loved how the author used such descriptive language. I felt the pressure even though the characters were in the sanctuary and I was on my little sister's tricycle in the living room. This author would had written a terribly boring book if this book did not have all the surprises and the actions for us. I was so overwhelmed by the action that I tried copying the characters. I hoped I was one of the characters and I personally thought Skulduggery was my friend when I was reading. Also, everytime I relaxed for the characters because they got out of danger, another big problem appeared and I get all tensed up again. Now I understood why this book was one of the Young Reader's Choice Award books.
This book was actually a little bit like The Alchemyst. They both contained magic and the Elders, and also children who get caught in all the business.
I feel like reading the next book, or do I? Maybe, if I run out of things to read. Anyhow, I really recommend this book for those people who love action as much as I do. And skeletons and a right hand that is skinless and could make people die, and a mirror image of yourself that moves and talks. I formally give it a 4.7 out of 5 just because I didn't like the bit in the middle that was so boring.
Hope everyone enjoys this wonderful book for...yourself?

  7. Does anyone out there somewhere know if there'll be a sequel? I want to know what happens to (insert bad guy here), Skullduggery Pleasant and Stephanie.

  8. This book is an immature abomination of a novel which is horrifically unoriginal and immature. At times durign this book, I felt a strong urge to just stop reading and not even finish it. It was extremely repetitive and the constant flow of "taking over the world" themed novels into the literary business is an epidemic which will tear the very fabric of literature apart at the seams. On top of the lack of originality, the novel was themed behind magic, and there is even an absurd talking skeleton in this novel. There are also holes in the story, such as the unexplained reason as to why Skulduggery did not merely destroy the sceptre to make it useless to the villains in this story. I rate this book a two out of five, because it slightly redeemed itself when it did nto have one of those absurd endings where somehow everyone who died magically coems back to life.

  9. I thought that this book was pretty amazing having a lot of action, mystery and suspense. The beginning really hooked me in and i couldnt put the book down. There were times that i got in trouble with my parents by secretly reading this book with a flashlight in the dark when i was SUPPOSED to be sleeping. The thing i didnt like about it though was about the same as Ross said. The book was awfully repetitive and there were times when the author didn't explain parts of the book clearly. It felt like there were holes missing in the story. Also, the middle was very boring but i kept reading so that i could find out what was going to happen at the end.
What was my verdict? I think that i would rate the book a 4 out of 5 because i really liked the action in the story, but minus one for all the boring parts.
