Peak BORED me. It was, honestly, boring. Of course, it was nice, but it got boring after 4 chapters.
Peak is about a boy, Peak, who in the beginning of the book, is arrested for (illegally) scaling a SKYSCRAPER. At first I thought, "Is that even POSSIBLE!?" and then I thought, "Well, yes, in this book it is."
Moving on. There is a (boring) court trial, and Peak's REAL father comes. This is where the book gets interesting. Peak is then taken to Thailand, where Peak's father resides. But first, THEY CLIMB MT. EVEREST.
After the climb started, the book began to bore me. It must've been exciting for Peak, who would get to be the youngest person EVER to reach the summit of the mountain.
I would give this book a 3 out of 5. Minus 1 for being TOO detailed (we didn't want to know about the corpses!)and minus another 1 for being boring. Overall, it was a good book. If you liked mountains.
I love this book, yes, you read it right, I LOVE the book. It kind of feels like that my eyes are almost glued to the pages everytime I read it. It's so realistic! I know this is a fictional book but secretly I believe this is a true story.(I know it's fictional but it's just true to me.) The author sure has some real tricks because I always thought that fictional stories are just fictional, not realistic and nor did I ever believed that any one of the fictional books I read were true. Peak Marcello was the main character in this book. His parents were awesome climbers and Peak got their talent. Peak's real dad tried to get Peak to get to the summit of Everest because he wanted his son to be the youngest person to reach the summit of Everest. It doesn't just make Peak famous, it is also great for his own climbing company. At last Peak did get to the summit, but he let his friend Sun-jo to be the youngest person to reach the summit because Sun-jo's dad died after saving Peak's dad's life. I was a little bit disappointed that it wasn't Peak that broke the record but I was really happy that he was so greatful for letting Sun-jo break the record. There were some specific parts that really made me feel like that I was there when the thing happened. There was the part where they saw a lot of corpses. I was in the family room sofa, and the room was really warm and I was in my hoodie and vest jacket and inside the jacket I wore a thin turtle neck long sleeved shirt and another vest, and on my feet I had my socks on and slippers and that shows you there was no way that I would be cold, but when the author described the scene, I had several shiver down my spine. Also, when the author described how sometimes peak feels very exhausted and out of oxygen, it reminds me of some of my personal experiences. Some of the parts are so so real that I actually felt what the characters were feeling. There were some parts that I almosted cried. Also, a lot of other stuff made me think about the world and myself. The book is written through diary form, and it really shows readers Peak's point of view and how he felt about the whole experience.I loved how the author provided all the details readers want and satisfy our quench of curiousity. If someone asked me to describe this using just a short sentence, I would say: "You just got to read this book because it's outrageous in an super awesome way!!!!" Totally read this book!!! At the inside cover it ways that this book is a perfect starter for kids who think books are boring. Peak is one of the best books I've read in my whole life! 50 out of 5 and there's not doubt about it. I am so totally going to share this book with everyone and read it over and over again. Which is also rare because I never reread books because my memory is good and I always remembers what happens in the book and makes rereading it boring.(And there's no doubt that I should stop rambling on.) 30 for @Louise@
I just discovered at the end of this entry I said if I need to describe Peak in one short sentence I would say:"You just got to read this book because it's outrageious in a super awsome way!!!!" but that sentence was actually quite long..... 30 for %Louise%
I read this book in about 3 days (i'm not trying to brag!, I'm trying to make a point here!). It started a little boring. Honestly, I didn't care that some guy was being arrested for climbing a building because the author didn't make me feel connected to Peak. I started to feel connected to the main character. Then, there was a sudden twist to the story when Peak's father pops out from nowhere. At the beginning, I thought his dad was DEAD! Suddenly, his dad says, " Let's climb Everest" and i get these huge sense of randomness. The whole book continues with more utterly random events occurring throughout the whole book. There is also a great deal of secrets that the characters were keeping from the main character which gives the book a mysterious atmosphere. I suppose that this book was supposed to be exciting because of the fact that Peak could die at any given moment. Overall, this book was confusing and RANDOM! But I keep wondering what would happen next so I couldn't put the book down. In my mind i was thinking, " Oh my god, what is Peak going to do?" The ending was kind of lame though. Peak refuses to walk 10 more feet to the top of the world, why? Because he is trying to repay a debt for his father. His father neglected him throughout his childhood and who only became interested in his son because Peak could bring good publicity to his company? Peak was a very strong character and it is very interesting to discover how he feels about what happened to him. He is kind and loving toward his sisters but tough enough to not lose it when he discovered that people have been trying to take advantage of him.
I thought peak was captivating. It made me want to read more and more. I loved that it was realistic with accurate, detailed descriptions about Everest. The ending was disappointing as I thought it was an anti climax, however, the rest of the story was very interesting. It made me feel that I was lucky to be in a warm house and not on a freezing mountain. I would recommend this book to anyone and sure that most people who read it will also appreciate it. 1Alex
To be honest, it felt as if my life was revolving around this book for the past few days I've been reading it because IT WAS SO GOOD! As I've mentioned before in my review for Schooled, I love realistic books and Peak had realistic stamped all over it. Part of what really helped make the novel alive was how much knowledge the author had about mountain climbing. Also, the descriptions were over the top graphic so it was really easy imagining the different things that peak saw and felt. The thrill in the events that happened never stopped either so I had a very hard time putting the book down. Lastly, I really liked the ending because it explained a bit of what happens after Peak gets off Everest and it shows how giving Peak is. In my opinion there is totally NOTHING that I dislike about the novel Peak so I'd like to rate it 5 stars with a bonus point. I'd like to recommend this book to people who love realistic, non stop exciting, and detailed novels!
Peak was a bit boring like maybe the beginning. Towards the ending it was a bit better than the beggining.I felt bad for him when he got arrested. But still i mean seriously how can someone climb on a skyscraper?? Anyway his dad was just like him they both loved climbing! his mom too but then she quit. I will rate this book 3 out of 5 well because it wasnt entertaining at all for me!Irecomened this book to people who like novels based on mountains and climbing. Dina 18~~
PEAK is awesome!!! The best book I read so far. One thing that I liked about PEAK was that it was realist even though it is fiction. The book got more exciting every chapter so I couldn't stop reading. The story was about a boy named Peak Marcello. I agree his name is kind of weird but his parents named it. It is not his fault. Anyways his dad was a mountain climber. He wanted Peak to go to the summit before his birthday because he wanted to make him the youngest person ever to go to the summit of Mr. Everst. That was pretty tough but Peak was really brave so he challenged himself. Later in the story he got to finish the mountain and go to the summit. He went to the summit with Yogi, Yash, and Sun-jo. The sad part was when Peak let Sun-jo be the youngest person ever to reach the flag which is the very top. Peak did that in purpose because Sun-jo's dad saved Peak's dad's life. He wanted to be even. That was very nice of him. This book made me feel like I was in the story. I visualized every scens in the story. I was awesome!!! I want to share this to my friends. This book is meant to be shared. I would give this book a 5 out of 5 because it is sooo awesome!!! Everybody read this book!!! If you don't you will regret it.
PEAK was an interesting book. It was about a boy named Peak Marcello. The First time that he climb on a mountain close to his hometown. His face was stuck on to the wall. So he got arrested by the police for illegally climbing the mountain without an adult. So he was taken Thailand to climb the mountain.
I would give this book a 5 out of 5. +1 for being so interesting just telling about him climbing up the mountain and +1 for telling us how he got arrested.
PEAK is just like one of the books that I’ll read it but forget about what happens really soon because some parts fits in too well with the real world. In this book, it is about a boy called Peak, he is a climber. In the beginning, it didn’t talk about he having a father, so I didn’t care about that. But then a few chapters later, this man tells him that he is his father, suddenly becoming an important character to change Peak’s life (summiting him to be the youngest climber to reach Mt. Everest.) My feeling towards that was random. But, this random thing influenced Peak’s life. It extended his goals as a climber. His dad wants him to be the youngest climber to climb Mt. Everest. First, I understand that Mt. Everest is the highest mountain and a lot of people died lack of oxygen or hypothermia. So I thought, is his dad trying to push Peak to the grave or something? …. I thought it was really weird but challenging. THIS made it exciting. But, the end was just disappointing, I can’t believe Peak would do that. I just hate stories that when someone almost succeeds something, but there is always an obstacle that makes him/her loose it. I rate this book a 3.5 out of 5 just for that random event happening and that disappointing part. #17 Emily =)
This book was fairly uninteresting with many anti-climatic moments and excessively boring parts which made me want to cover the book with gas and light it on fire. It was an amazingly difficult to read book, I had more fun reading the dictionary in fifth grade. This book was an incredible dissapointment and struggle to get through. I hope no other books in the YRCA are as bad as this, and i give it a 1.1 out of 5.
