  1. Personally, I thought to myself when I saw the book, "Hm. This looks odd, with the little girl and all." Then I read the first page.
    Instantly hooked.
It makes you actually feel like a slave back in the 1700's. It is also sad. Why all the dying? I wonder...
This book made me feel so different. I can't explain the feeling, but kind of like.... Warm.
It is very touching and sweet. The author seems to enjoy historical fiction. I would give this a 4.8 out of 5. Minus .2 for sadness.
I recommend this book to people who enjoy historical fiction and those who don't mind shedding a tear once every few pages.

  2. This book was so real. The author even put the date. I'm not sure if the book is really real or not, but it was great. This book was... I don't know what to say about it. I liked it but I don't know the feeling that I got. I was sad, I guess. People in the book are so cruel.
When I read the first part, I thought it was a scary story about ghosts. I stopped reading it for a few days. I took a deep breath and started reading it again. This time I finished the book in a day. I kinda hated the book for being so cruel to slaves. But I know it is the truth about how they treat slaves at that time. They didn't think slaves were humans like themselves. If I were in the book I would totally help Isabel and teach Mrs. Lockton something she never would learn. Which is that everybody should be treated the same. Why were there slaves? Most people have the same amount of hands and legs. What can they not do that the slaves could do? NOTHING! They have arms and legs to support them to live, they don't need slaves. Do things yourself, don't be lazy like me!
okay, I went of topic. This book was most of sad things. I hardly saw any happy parts, except for the ending. (Which I am not going to tell you) At the ending I was finally excited to read on, but the book ended and told me to read the next book. That got me crazy.
I give this book a 4 out of 5. I didn't enjoy the sad part and was angry for making me go crazy. I would have gave the book a way better mark but I always thought about the cruelness.
